Type specimen: SMNS 91352A–C, a partial skeleton (mostly articulated skeleton lacking the skull and cervical vertebrae, recovered as several blocks). Its type locality is Vellberg-Eschenau, which is in a Longobardian estuary/bay claystone in the Erfurt Formation of Germany.
