Type specimens:

  • Psephophorus polygonus: NHMW 2011/0330/0001 (neotype), a partial shell (a slab containing ridge and non-ridge ossicles)
  • Psephophorus calvertensis: USNM 6059, a partial shell. Its type locality is Plum Point, Zone 9, which is in a Burdigalian marine claystone in the Calvert Formation of Maryland.

Ecology: aquatic durophage-piscivore

Distribution:

• Miocene of Italy (2 collections), the Netherlands (1), Slovakia (1), United States (9: Maryland, Virginia)

Total: 13 collections each including a single occurrence
