Sister taxa: Heterosminthus firmus, Heterosminthus gansus, Heterosminthus intermedius, Heterosminthus minutus, Heterosminthus mongoliensis, Heterosminthus orientalis

Type specimen: IVPP V11713, a tooth (Left M1). Its type locality is Shangxigou (GL 9601B), which is in an Oligocene terrestrial mudstone in the Xianshuihe Formation of China.

Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore-insectivore

Distribution:

• Oligocene to Miocene of Mongolia (2 collections)

• Oligocene of China (6), Mongolia (1)

Total: 9 collections each including a single occurrence
