Sister taxa: Scleromys angustus, Scleromys colombianus, Scleromys osbornianus, Scleromys quadrangulatus, Scleromys schurmanni
Type specimen: MUSM 2888, a tooth. Its type locality is CTA-61, which is in an Oligocene channel conglomerate in the Chambira Formation of Peru.
Ecology: ground dwelling frugivore-folivore
Distribution: found only at CTA-61
