Sister taxa: Neophanomys biplicatus, Neophanomys pristinus
Type specimen: GHUNLPam 19602, a mandible (left mandibular fragment with intra-alveolar portion of incisor and m1-3.). Its type locality is CaleufĂș, which is in a Messinian loess siltstone in the Cerro Azul Formation of Argentina.
Ecology: ground dwelling herbivore
Distribution: found only at CaleufĂș
