Type specimens:

  • Bassariscus antiquus: AMNH 13869, a mandible (left mandible with m1-m2 and roots of p4). Its type locality is 23 Miles South of Agate, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Olcott Formation of Nebraska.
  • Bassariscus nevadensis:

Ecology: arboreal frugivore-carnivore

Distribution:

• Miocene of Canada (3: Saskatchewan collections), United States (12: California, Nebraska, Nevada, Oregon)

Total: 15 collections each including a single occurrence
