Named in honour of Eduard Eichwald (1795-1876), one of the pioneers in scolecodont research.

Sister taxa: Oenonites jennyensis, Oenonites olavi, Oenonites wejstorpi, Oenonites zappae
Type specimen: LO 7639, a mandible (right MI). Its type locality is Lickershamn 2, which is in a Sheinwoodian marine marl in the Hogklint Beds Formation of Sweden.
Ecology: epifaunal detritivore
Distribution: found only at Lickershamn 2
