Type specimens:

  • Dinohippus leidyanus: AMNH 17724, a partial skeleton (Skull, jaws, vertebrre, fore and hind limbs, considerable portions of the ribs and other parts of the skeleton, all of one individual). Its type locality is ZXBar, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Snake Creek Formation of Nebraska.
  • Pliohippus edensis:
