Sister taxa: Diprionomys agrarius, Diprionomys minimus

Type specimen: UCMP 12566, a mandible (right mandible with incisor, p4, m1). Its type locality is Thousand Creek Formation, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Thousand Creek Formation of Nevada.

Ecology: ground dwelling granivore-browser

Distribution:

• Hemphillian of United States (4: Nevada, Oregon collections)

• Miocene of United States (2: California, Nevada)

Total: 6 collections each including a single occurrence
