Sister taxa: Aetiocetus cotylalveus, Aetiocetus polydentatus
Type specimen: UCMP 122900, a partial skeleton. Its type locality is Ona Beach, which is in a Chattian deltaic horizon in the Yaquina Formation of Oregon.
Ecology: aquatic carnivore-suspension feeder
Distribution: found only at Ona Beach
