Type specimens:

  • Plateosaurus erlenbergiensis: SMNS 6014, a partial skeleton (a partial skull and part of the skeleton including several vertebrae, partial pectoral girdle and forelimb, partial ilium, ischium, and most of the hindlimb ele). Its type locality is Bl. 7220, Erlenberg, which is in a Rhaetian terrestrial marl in the Trossingen Formation of Germany.
  • Plateosaurus fraasianus: SMNS 13200, a skeleton.
  • Plateosaurus integer:
  • Plateosaurus longiceps: HMN MB.R.1937 (= XXIV), I, XXV, a skeleton. Its type locality is Baerecke-Limpricht clay pit, Halberstadt (bed 18), which is in a Rhaetian floodplain claystone/sandstone in the Trossingen Formation of Germany.
