Oniichthys falipoui was named by Cavin and Brito (2001). Its type specimen is MDE F13, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Oniichthys falipoui-type locality [PROXY], which is in an Albian/Cenomanian terrestrial horizon in Morocco.
