Taxonomy
Cretoxyrhina was named by Glikman (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno K Sant Sepkoski's reference number: 884]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Cretoxyrhinidae.

It was assigned to Cretoxyrhinidae by Biddle (1993) and Shimada (1997); and to Lamniformes by Sepkoski (2002).
