Uintatheriidae was named by Flower (1876). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Tinoceridae by Hay (1902).

It was assigned to Amblypoda by Flower and Lydekker (1891); to Amblypoda by Gregory (1910) and Matthew et al. (1929); and to Dinocerata by Patterson (1939), Wheeler (1961), Schoch and Lucas (1985), Carroll (1988) and Lucas and Schoch (1998).

bone on the skull in the nasal region (Node 6).
