Uintacyon (Miocyon) was named by Matthew (1909). It is not extant. Its type is Prodaphaenus scotti.

It was reranked as Miocyon by Bryant (1992), Flynn (1998) and Friscia and Rasmussen (2010).

It was assigned to Uintacyon by Matthew (1909); and to Miacidae by Bryant (1992), Flynn (1998) and Friscia and Rasmussen (2010).
