Podomys was named by Osgood (1909) [named as a subgenus of Peromyscus; raised to genus level by Carleton 1980]. It is extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Peromyscus by Kurten and Anderson (1980), Rogers et al. (1984) and Stangl and Baker (1984).
It was assigned to Cricetidae by Carleton (1980), Wilson and Reeder (1993), Morgan and White (1995) and McKenna and Bell (1997).
