Cosoryx was named by Leidy (1869). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Merycodus by Matthew (1904), Douglass (1909), Henshaw (1939), Gregory (1942), Galbreath (1953) and Webb (1969).

It was assigned to Antilocapridae by Leidy (1869), Skinner and Taylor (1967), Tedford et al. (1987) and Janis and Manning (1998).
