It was assigned to Bovina by Gray (1825); to Ruminantia by Owen (1848); to Antilopidae by Lydekker (1878); to Bovidae by Abel (1826) and Carroll (1988); to Antilopinae by Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008); and to Antilopini by Grubb (2001) and Gentry (2010).
