Murex vindobonensis was named by Hörnes (1856) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; central Paratethys.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Purpura (Tritonalia) vindobonensis by Baluk (1995) and Harzhauser (2002).
