Taxonomy
Platyzona anguispira was named by Batten (1989). Its type specimen is USNM 431579 and is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM702ent, Split Tank, Glass Mountains, which is in a Kungurian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Cathedral Mountain Formation of Texas.
