Tetracampe was named by Forster (1841). It is extant. It is the type genus of Tetracampidae, Tetracampinae.

It was assigned to Tetracampidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Tetracampinae by Gumovsky and Perkovsky (2005) and Heraty et al. (2013).
