Montastrea ebiraseensis was named by Eguchi (1951). Its type locality is Ebirase, which is in a Tithonian/Berriasian perireef or subreef limestone in Japan.
It was recombined as Keriophyllia ebiraseensis by Baron-Szabo (2009).
