Sphaerocoryphe granulata was named by Angelin (1854).

It was synonymized subjectively with Cheirurus (Pseudosphaerexochus) conformis by Schmidt (1881); it was recombined as Hemisphaerocoryphe granulata by Warburg (1925); it was recombined as Pseudosphaerexochus granulatus by Reed (1935).
