Taxonomy
Pelopia obscura was named by Statz (1944). It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Rott (Statz Collection), which is in a Chattian lacustrine - small shale in the Rott Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Tanypus obscurus by Evenhuis (1994).
