Asaphus brongniardii was named by Deslongchamps (1825) [Néotype Université d'Orsay]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is T 100.
It was recombined as Homalonotus brongniarti by Rouault (1849); it was recombined as Eohomalonotus brongniarti by Prantl and Pribyl (1950).
