Discussion

The specific name, violetae, honours Violeta Arraes de Alencar Gervaiseau former rector of the Universidade Regional do Cariri (URCA), who fosters paleontological studies in this region.

Taxonomy
Caririemys violetae was named by Oliveira and Kellner (2007). Its type specimen is MN 6919–V, a partial skeleton (incomplete carapace, part of the last cervical vertebra, dorsal and caudal vertebrae, right pelvis and femur), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Santana do Cariri (general), which is in an Aptian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal shale in the Romualdo Formation of Brazil. It is the type species of Caririemys.
