Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
V. M. Page 1968Vessels absent. Tracheids thick-
walled, radially flattened, make up bulk of tissue;
pits observed only on radial walls, bordered,
scalariform or round in uniseriate vertical rows with slit-like apertures. Tracheids avg 1740μ long (1568-2088 μ). Multiseriate rays up to eight cells wide and avg 2 mm in height (1-4 mm); cells thick-walled, square or upright; sheath-like cells present in wide rays. Uniseriates frequent, composed of vertical cells about 14 μ wide in tangential view, thin-walled. Pits between rays and tracheids round or slightly elongated horizontally in two or more vertical rows depending on width of tracheid. Parenchyma scanty, cross-walls slightly oblique to horizontal. Pith cells near primary xylem groups narrow and high in longitudinal section, increasing in total size toward center. Multiseriate rays delimit primary xylem bundles,
