Qianshanosaurus was named by Hou (1974). Its type is Qianshanosaurus huangpuensis.
It was assigned to Iguanidae by Hou (1974) and Hou (1976); to Lacertilia by Estes (1983); to Lacertilia by Carroll (1988); to Isodontosauridae by Alifanov (2000); to Changjiangosauridae by Alifanov (2009); and to Acrodonta by Dong et al. (2016).
