Gigantophis was named by Andrews (1901). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Madtsoiinae by Hoffstetter (1961) and Rage (1984); to Boidae by Andrews (1906) and Carroll (1988); and to Madtsoiidae by Mohabey et al. (2011), McCartney and Seiffert (2016) and Rio and Mannion (2017).
