Taxonomy
Murex eldridgei was named by Arnold (1907). Its type specimen is USNM 164955, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Purpura (Jaton) eldridgei by Grant and IV and Gale (1931); it was recombined as Jaton eldridgei by Stanton (1966); it was recombined as Maxwellia eldridgei by Hendy (2021).
