Cheirolepis schultzei

Cheirolepis schultzei was named by Arratia and Cloutier (2004) [Cheirolepidid that differs from other species of Cheirolepis in the following combination of features: Large orbit, more than 20% of head length. Very elongate and narrow dermosphenotic. Short spiracular slit. Long sutural connection between dermosphenotic and supratemporal. Contact between dermosphenotic and postparietal absent. Supratemporal lacking contact with posttemporal and extrascapular included in lateral border of the skull roof. Very elongate, narrow lower jaw. Large accessory operculum ending close to lateral margin of cranial roof and with a narrow ventral margin. Long supracleithrum. Cleithrum slightly deeper than wide with anterior lamina small. Cranial ornamentation including numerous ganoine ridges and a few, small tubercles.]. Its type specimen is KUVP 94092a,b, a partial skeleton (skull and lower jaw, most of pectoral girdle and fins are revealed in lateral view with part and counterpart present), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Red Hill, Horse Creek Valley, which is in a Givetian carbonate lime mudstone in the Denay Limestone Formation of Nevada.
