Ocinebra topangensis was named by Arnold (1907). Its type specimen is USNM 164995, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Purpura topangensis by Loel and Corey (1932); it was recombined as Ocenebra topangensis by Addicott (1970).
