Bradocryphaeus was named by Haas and Mensink (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: D Eife D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 983].

It was reranked as Neocalmonia (Bradocryphaeus) by Pillet (1974).

It was assigned to Neocalmonia by Pillet (1974); to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); to Acastidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Asteropyginae by Van Viersen and Vanherle (2018).
