Taxonomy
Entoptychus sperryi was named by Sinclair (1905). Its type specimen is UCMP 649, a skull (Cranium and mandible), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Entoptychus planifrons by Rensberger (1971).
