Taxonomy
Appalachemys ebersolei was named by Gentry et al. (2023). Its type specimen is ALMNH PV985.24, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Appalachemys ebersolei type locality [PROXY], which is in a Santonian/Campanian marine horizon in the Mooreville Chalk Formation of Alabama. It is the type species of Appalachemys.
