Orohippus uintensis was named by Marsh (1875). It is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Epihippus gracilis by Granger (1908), Peterson (1932), Scott (1945), Gazin (1956), Forsten (1971) and Hanson (1996); it was recombined as Epihippus uintensis by King (1878), Scott and Osborn (1887), Osborn (1890), Matthew (1899), Hay (1902), Matthew (1909), Hay (1930), MacFadden (1980), McCarroll et al. (1996) and MacFadden (1998).
