Head consisting of a spheroidal receptacular core surrounded by numerous pistillate florets. Each floret with five free carpels and a perianth of well developed tepals. Carpels conduplicate, with a ventral suture running from the top of the ovary to the tip of the extended, persistant style. Fruits achenes, lacking dispersal hairs at maturity. |
