Taxonomy
Paratamias tarassus was named by Tedrow et al. (2001) [genotype]. Its type locality is Rockland Valley Gravel Quarry, which is in a Hemphillian fluvial-lacustrine claystone in the Starlight Formation of Idaho. It is the type species of Paratamias.
