Kobyphyllia was named by Baron-Szabo and Fernández-Mendiola (1997). It is not extant. Its type is Plesiophyllia recta.
It was assigned to Faviidae by Baron-Szabo and Fernández-Mendiola (1997); to Axosmiliidae by Baron-Szabo (2014); and to Montlivaltiidae by Ricci et al. (2018).
