Taxonomy
Byzantinia bayraktepensis was named by Unay (1980). It is not extant. Its type specimen is BA1 22, a tooth. Its type locality is Bayraktepe I, which is in a Miocene floodplain horizon in the Bayraktepe Formation of Turkey.
