Terebratula cuneata was named by Dalman (1828). Its type specimen is Br 2216 (conjoined valves) and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Rhynchonella cuneata by Davidson (1867); it was recombined as Rhynchotreta cuneata by Bassett and Cocks (1974) and Rubel and Rozman (1977).
