Amauropsis (Prostylifer) was named by Koken (1889) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1120]. Its type is Melania paludinaris.

It was misspelled as Protostylifera by Sepkoski (2002); it was reranked as Prostylifer by Bandel (1992), Bandel (1994) and Bouchet et al. (2005).

It was assigned to Amauropsis by Koken (1889); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Prostyliferidae by Bandel (1992), Bandel (1994) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
