Taxonomy
Aegypiinae was named as a subfamily. It is extant.

It was reranked as the family Aegypiidae by Hay (1930); it was synonymized subjectively with Accipitridae by Amadon (1977).

It was assigned to Falconoidae by Hay (1930); and to Accipitridae by Miller and Compton (1939), Wetmore (1940), Wetmore (1940), Wetmore (1943), Wetmore (1956), Feduccia (1974) and Zhang et al. (2010).
