Taxonomy
Rhactorthidae was named by Williams (1963).

It was reranked as the subfamily Rhactorthinae by Wright (1964), Owen and Harper (1982) and Potter (1990).

It was assigned to Orthacea by Owen and Harper (1982); to Plectorthidae by Wright (1964) and Potter (1990); and to Plectorthoidea by Williams et al. (2000).
