Baculites ovata was named by Say (1820) [DISTRIBUTION: Campanian; Western Interior.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was corrected as Baculites ovatus by Russell and Landes (1937), Al-Harithi and Ibrahim (1992), Kennedy and Cobban (1993), Kennedy and Cobban (1994), Ahmad et al. (2015) and Hewaidy et al. (2019).
