Taxonomy
Pariotichidae was named by Cope (1883). It is not extant. Its type is Pariotichus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Captorhinidae by Gregory et al. (1956).

It was assigned to Reptilia by Cope (1883); to Theriodontia by Zittel (1890); to Cotylosauria by Cope (1896) and Osborn (1904); and to Pareiasauria by Case (1911).
