Cercamonius brachyrhynchus
Taxonomy
Protadapis brachyrhynchus was named by Stehlin (1912). Its type specimen is Q.V. 619, a mandible (left mandible preserving the alveoli for the lower canine, P2, P3, and M3 and the crowns of P4, M1, and M2), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Prajous, which is in an Eocene terrestrial phosphorite in France.
It was recombined as Protoadapis brachyrhynchus by Gregory (1920); it was recombined as Protoadapis angustidens brachyrhynchus by Teilhard (1922); it was recombined as Cercamonius brachyrhynchus by Gingerich (1975).
