Taxonomy
Ancyloceras was named by d'Orbigny (1842) [Sepkoski's age data: K Barr-l K Apti-u]. It is the type genus of Ancylocerataceae, Ancyloceratidae, Ancyloceratinae.

It was reranked as Crioceras (Ancyloceras) by Gabb (1864).

It was assigned to Crioceras by Gabb (1864); to Ammonoidea by Murphy (1956); to Cephalopoda by Giers (1964); to Ancyloceratidae by Murphy (1975) and Kakabadze and Hoedemaeker (1997); and to Ancyloceratinae by Renz (1982), Förster and Weier (1983), Landra et al. (2000) and Szives (2007).
