Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
P. C. Sereno et al. 2008Aerosteon riocoloradensis is characterized by a prefrontal with a very short ventral process, an enlarged quadrate foramen located entirely within the quadrate, a large tympanic diverticulum into the quadrate shaft above the articular condyle, anterior dorsal vertebra with very large parapophyses, dorsal neural spines with central pneumatic space, posteriormost dorsal vertebra with anterodorsally inclined neural spine and a pneumatic canal within the transverse process, anterior caudal vertebrae with a large pleurocoel, medial gastral elements coossified with anterior and posterior flanges, and a furcula with median pneumatocoel.
M. T. Carrano et al. 2012Allosauroid theropod with: (1) robust, cylindrical transverse processes on proximal caudal vertebrae; and (2) fossa on lateral surface of coracoid dorsal to glenoid and (separate) subglenoid fossa.
A. M. Aranciaga Rolando et al. 2022The autapomorphic characters of Aerosteon are: pneumatic furcula (ambiguous); anterior and posterior processes of postorbital forming a angle close to 180° ; dorsal quadratojugal surface of the quadrate facing laterally; quadrate fossa with a dorsoposterior shallow part just below the quadrate head; angle of 130° defined between main axis of prearticular and the anterior process; highest point of the ilium above the pre-acetabular blade; shaft of the tibia laterally concave in anterior view with a small bump on the anterior surface of the distal tibia.
