Taxonomy
Joffrichthys triangulpterus was named by Newbrey and Bozek (2000). Its type specimen is ND 98-1.2, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Almont, which is in a Clarkforkian lacustrine shale in the Fort Union Formation of North Dakota.
